http://simmonites.com/Discovery%20Lighting.htmI understand early Discovery rear
lights with indicators can be fi tted to
the later Discovery 1 with a simple
wiring link. Can you detail the wiring
and connections required?

✪ I’ll explain the problem for the
benefit of other readers. The early
(200Tdi-style) Discovery had all the
rear lamps fitted in the body-mounted
light cluster. The later (300Tdi-style)
vehicle also had a body-mounted light
cluster, but this only contained the
brake, reverse and fog lights. The side
lights and indicators were moved to an
additional bumper-mounted light
cluster, leaving part of the bodymounted
cluster empty.
Owners complained about the
dummy lights and the safety
implications of not having the brake
lights next to the tail lights. This
resulted in the following modification.
By removing the rear interior trim
panels, the later light cluster
assemblies can be taken out and early
are then taken from the bumpermounted
tail and indicator feeds in
the wiring harness, and led to the
wiring block connector on the new,
body-mounted lamp cluster.
The links must be taken from the
main wiring harness rather than from
the towbar circuit, otherwise the
trailer warning lamp on the dash will
flash when you indicate.
The result is: brake lights next to
the tail lights, and also two sets of
tail and indicator lamps with obvious
safety and reliability advantages.
